🚤 Travel Lifts and Other Lifting Devices

Travel lifts (used in marinas and industrial settings) fall under the category of lifting devices in Ontario’s Industrial Establishments Regulation (Reg. 851).

Pre-Start Health and Safety Review (PSR):

  • Required for lifting devices supported by a structure, such as:
    • Gantry cranes
    • Monorail cranes
    • Jib cranes

Inspection & Certification:

  • Must comply with CSA B167-16, which covers:
  • Annual inspections are mandatory.
  • If no inspection history exists (e.g., second-hand equipment), a full inspection must be conducted before use.

Here’s a comprehensive crane inspection checklist tailored to Ontario regulations and CSA standards (e.g., CSA Z150 for mobile cranes and CSA Z248 for tower cranes). This can be used for daily, periodic, and annual inspections.

  • [ ] Secondary suspension system in place (as per Ontario regs)

7. Electrical Systems

  • [ ] Lights and alarms operational
  • [ ] Grounding verified
  • [ ] Battery condition checked

8. Stability & Setup

  • [ ] Outriggers fully extended and stable
  • [ ] Ground bearing pressure assessed and documented
